With descriptive lyrics that paint a sad but clear picture of the breakdown of a relationship, singer-songwriter Guy Capecelatro III’s “Like Anything” is as much a carefully constructed poem as it is a song. There are no wasted words in “Like Anything,” and each one is sung by Capecelatro in a minimal, whispering voice similar to Elliott Smith’s. This voice is accompanied by sparse instrumentation, including a haunting saw, creating a mood that is beautifully somber.
“This is a song of coming clean, of good things and bad things all at once,” says Capecelatro. “Throwing it all in a pile and hoping for the best but suspecting the worst. To me, the song tries to capture the specificity of a duplicitous relationship and the inevitable fallout.” “Like Anything” will be on his upcoming album, North for the Winter which is due out February 21.
